Biochemistry, Molecular, and Structural Biology PhD Program

(June 2025 – Present)

Jake received his B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in 2020 from the University of California, Santa Cruz. He worked as an undergraduate and lab technician in Harry Noller’s lab in Santa Cruz from 2019 to 2024, where he researched the structure and function of the bacterial ribosome. His project focused on the investigation of universally conserved nucleotides in the small ribosomal subunit, as well as nucleotides involved in the peptidyl transferase reaction in the large ribosomal subunit.  Jake joined the Biochemistry, Molecular, and Structural Biology (BMSB) PhD Program in Fall of 2024, and currently performs structural studies on the interactions between translational quality control proteins and the ribosome.
